Mobility Pro Review
Mobility Pro is a complete golf stretching program in an app for iOS and Android. I’ve been using it for six months and have seen an increase in my flexibility. This article will cover how flexibility can improve your golf game and how to use this app to make progress.
How Flexibility Can Help Your Golf Game
Increasing your flexibility can increase your distance and ensure you can reach optimal positions in your golf swing. Golf trainers have discovered an “X-factor,” which is the rotation of your shoulders compared to your hips during the swing.
Increasing your flexibility and overall strength will allow you to maximize your distance and ensure your golf swing is not restricted due to poor fitness.
How Often to Stretch
I found this podcast from Andrew Huberman particularly interesting regarding stretching. Some key ideas include:
- You don’t need to stretch for long or push hard. Instead, consistency is more important for as little as 5 minutes per day.
- Static holding stretches work best, holding the stretch for 30 – 60 seconds.
- The frequency of stretching should be 5x per week.
Mobility Pro Overview
As I’ve been working to improve my golf game, I decided to look at my flexibility and fitness to ensure they weren’t holding me back. However, I found it challenging to follow random YouTube videos on golf stretching and wanted a way to know if I was improving, which is when I found Mobility Pro.
Mobility Pro provides simple stretches to improve your flexibility and a score to track your improvement over time. This is great to know if you’re moving in the right direction.
Mobility Score
The first thing you’ll do when getting Mobility Pro is to take a short stretching test to get a mobility score. The app guides you through how to conduct these tests with animated instructions that are easy to follow.
This score is broken down into:
- shoulders
- thorax
- hips
- posterior chain
- ankles
This score lets the app focus on areas that need to be improved and enables you to track your progress along the way. The app will prompt you to retest after a month to see your progress.
Exercises
Mobility Pro splits its training into three areas:
- Daily: focus on improving your flexibility with a routine targeted at where you need improvement
- Activate: prepare for a round of golf either at the course or home
- Recover: relax your muscles after playing
Each exercise set lets you specify a time (5-20 minutes) that determines how many stretches are included. The stretches include basic movements and yoga-type poses. They have a high-quality video and a timer with a chime.
You can also save the exercises as a favorite to do them independently from an exercise set.
I find the quality of the app, exercises, and video excellent. It makes it easy to figure out what to do, even for someone who hasn’t done yoga or other stretching exercises. The app also gives alternative positions for those less flexible.
Optional Equipment
Mobility Pro lets you add optional equipment to unlock other stretches (depending on your training type). These include:
- golf club
- elastic band
- percussion gun
- massage ball
- foam roller
I’ve primarily done the daily stretch mode, and most stretches don’t involve these items, so you’re not missing much if you don’t have them, but it does expand the options, especially in the warm-up and recovery modes.
Conclusion
I’ve found this app to be an excellent addition to my golf training. They offer a free 14-day trial which is worth trying to see where you score on the mobility test, see some of the stretches, and determine if you want to continue with a subscription to improve that score.
The app subscription is currently $9.99/month or $89.99/year. This might seem slightly expensive considering the narrow focus of the app; however, I find there’s nothing else out there with the quality and ease of use of this app. If you’re looking for the easiest way to start a stretching program and save time instead of reading a book or trying to create your own program, this is worth investing in.
